three things from threethumbs
The 3 topics for today are:
Call of duty 3 (CoD3)
Xbox vision camera
Splintercell demo
CoD3
No time for wishy washy introductions today. I’m heading into the city in 45 minutes so I will keep this one rather brief, if possible.
I’ve been reading reviews of Call of Duty 3 (CoD3) and there seems to be quite a hype about it. Since it’s not out yet I cant test it for myself so I have to rely on videos.
This is what I’ve heard about it from various reviews:
Sound: better than CoD2
Visuals: Real Textures of cloth, wet cloth looks wet, dry cloth looks dry.
Grass crunches under your feet.
Game play: Anyone who has played it only seems to have gotten 20 minutes in.
What I have learnt from CoD3 videos off YouTube.
Sound: sounds pretty much the same to me. Even what they are saying sounds the same “Go get those Jerrys!”
Visuals: now this is where I want to say every thing is correct…but instead I will say exactly the opposite. Grass does not crunch under the foot! If it did I would preorder this one. But it doesn’t. It’s as simple as that.
Sure wet cloth looks wet when its wet. But I want to see dry cloth transform into wet cloth. Not that spectacular so far.
Game play: looks the same, and it looks like it feels the same.
My conclusion: Maybe the YouTube videos are actually of CoD2 just with the CoD3 title but it ain’t looking that great from here. Probably won’t buy it….but who knows.
Xbox Vision Camera
This sukka is pretty fun. I now have a personalized picture of myself with my finger under my nose. On that finger I have drawn a mustache with a permanent marker.
Due to this I am unrecognizable!
You get ‘Uno’ for free with the camera which is cool. And Totem Ball is a free game too which is a double bonus. These are both camera assisted games.
The camera also changes the background of your dashboard. Doesn’t really have anything to do with anything but its sweet that the put that up on in there.
I haven’t messed around with it all that much but I can say it does work as a computer webcam and you can have Xbox cam chats, via Xbox. Too bad everyone seems to be a guy . Still a fun little thing though.
Splinter Cell Demo
I spoke about it before I think, explaining that it was looking pretty sweet. Well the demo has confirmed this. The demo is multiplayer and there fore is excellent. I have a lot of homework to do but I played it pretty much all day yesterday. I also played it this morning when I woke up.
The deal is you can play as a spy or a cop. The cops kill the spies before they get away with any hacking and data collection. And the spy….you guessed it jump around hacking and get away from cops.
The way they balanced out the cops and spies is really nice.
Spies don’t have guns but they have an arm gadget which can destroy most lights so they can frolic in the darkness and they can climb up pipes and under stuff into little passages. Through little holes ect… pretty freaking sweet. Oh and zip line too, any game with a zip line is worthy of praise! Except Project Dark Zero…..oh…that was a cold day….
Spies can also sneak up on a cop and break his neck, or jump on him from a height and knock him out. The only real weapon they have is flash grenades, which work really well.
Cops have guns. And those guns are big. Unending magazines, 3 gun rappelled grenades and 2 drones are what they pack. And with all this equipment, they obviously cant jump as high and climb up poles.
When a spy is in some little hole in the wall that a cop can’t get to, he can equip his drone and make it fly over to the spy and take that sukka out. Makes you feel good when you do it. Like stabbing some one with a bayonet in the head, when he is camping….mmm….satisfies my hunger.
The cops also have repel cables so they can go from a second floor level to a first floor level if they have a phobia of stairs.
Excellent looking game. I am likely to go out and buy it.
Anyway the sun is shining and I have a lot of work to do, so I’m off to procrastinate in the city.
