The Red Faction Strikes Back.

Genre Free Roaming Action Publisher THQ Developer Volition Studios ESRB M Multiplayer Yes

Rating 9.0

Both the original Red Faction and Red Faction Guerrilla feature destruction as the main theme of the game. But Guerrilla blows its prequel out of the water with its new and improved geomod 2.0 engine which allows destruction unlike anything you've ever seen in a game. Surpassing even Battlefield: Bad Company's frostbite engine Guerrilla allows buildings to be razed to the ground. Unfortunately the terrain will not be affected even by your strongest weapons. Now if Fracture and Guerrilla had a baby it would make the ultimate playground of destruction.

The graphical quality of Guerrilla is surprisingly good considering the only thing you want to do to buildings is blow them to bits. Although the game world may seem a bit desolate at times since buidlings are thinly scattered around mars. The detail in the main characters is impressive, but unless mars is full of clones or inbreeds there should be a little more variety in the general population. the EDF soldiers may look the same because they have to wear matching uniforms, but what about the red faction members?

Let's face it, blowing things up is a lot of fun. Volition studios not only knows that but it seems as if they developed this game only using that thought as inspiration. The great variety of weapons keeps the action flowing effortlessly. If you get tired of using rocket launchers and mines why not steal a truck and ram it through a building? Not to mention the levels where you take over a "wallker" or a super awesome mech that enables you to run through buildings like they're not even there, and soon they won't be because it's just that powerful. The walker is not available in most of the missions. The reason (I assume) being that using it all the time would make the game too easy(read: boring). The shooting mechanics are a well oiled machine that only adds to the experience.

Red Faction: Guerrilla is an awesome game that should not be ignored. You owe it to yourself to play this game if you enjoy playing shooters. Heck even if you don't like shooters this might just be the game to turn your life around. The battle against the EDF awaits. What's there to lose?

Now This is my first review on a multiplayer game. I will judge the multiplayer component as a game of its own because most games deliver a different experience on the multiplayer side.

Multiplayer Rating 10

The multiplayer part of Guerrilla is made of 100% awesome. The destruction from the single player experience returns and is well implemented into multiplayer. Think of it as demolitionist wars. Sure you can shoot your enemies with an assault rifle or a shotgun or a sniper rifle. But how cool is it to blow up a building and letting it collapse on top of your enemies to kill three or four of them on the spot? Very cool I say. Matches are easy to join and lag is nearly nonexistant. If players drop out of a game you can continue the action without interruption although players aren't allowed to join a game after it starts. Trust me, even if you don't particularly enjoy blowing things up (what's wrong with you?) there is a lot of fun in this game's multiplayer modes.

There are no negative comments about the multiplayer side of this game. Well except the annoying players I had to put up with sometimes but that's not the developer's fault so I will not reduce its score for that.

That's actually a weapon in the game. It's called the ostrich hammer. Seriously.
