The weirdest internet coincidence of my life…
There is nothing worse than trying to squint to read text on a videogame on a small TV “how many bullets do I have left?!” “What’s the mission objective again?” Impossible questions to answer with an ordinary television. That’s where HDTV comes in.
HDTV is short for high definition Television. And yes, as you guessed, that means that the TV is …much more highly defined? What is that supposed to mean? I’ve never seen a television wearing a top hat and speaking in an English accent that even the queen would be proud to sport. HD means that the picture is a lot clearer. No more jagged lines and blurry text. Games finally look the way they should.
Are you ready for a top secret now?....Don’t tell anyone. This is just between me and you….SHH!!! Hush your mouth!
You can get high definition video for as low as 15 AUD(Australian dollars)/7 American dollars(ish…). I do not lie! I’ve experienced this phenomenon first hand, and it sir, is truly Great!
So how do I do it? What’s my ancient Chinese secret? My answer is ‘You are looking right at it!’ (did that just give you chills down your spine? Because typing that up gave them to me)
Odds are you are looking at a computer monitor made within the last 10 years or so. And if you’re not…frankly I would be surprised if you actually knew what a TV is.
Anyway back to my point. Most if not all modern computer monitors support HD video! I currently run my 360 through one and it works a charm. I actually have a monitor with 2 inputs letting me use the computer then at the press of a button I can view my 360. If you are considering a HDTV I advise you to consider my option. It will cost you far less and if you do it right.. you only have to spend 15 AUD.
‘How threethumbs? How do you enact such a great feat of cheapness!? HOW!!’
Well I will tell you…but only because you asked the question in such an uncommon manner.
You do it with a little help from God. Yes the man in the sky looking down on us wondering what the heck we have done to the planet. Yes through him this feat is possible.
The Salvos Family store (second hand shops) are where these marvels prevail and these baby’s go for dead cheap.
Don’t expect a flat liquid-cristal gen, state of the art screen though. People usually hand them in because they don’t need a screen anymore. Not just for the sake of handing them in. You can find a good flat 19” CFT (I think that’s right) monitor though if you look around! Go out and get one before the world reads this post and there are none left. BUT MAKE SURE YOU TEST IT IN THE SHOP FIRST!! You don’t want to come home with a dark screen or one that doesn’t actually work!
But what does this have to do with the title of my post “The weirdest internet coincidence of my life…”?
Well if you would just be a little patient I will tell you.
The problem with computer monitors, is that they can not play BC(backward compatible) games. I have a good 50 old school xbox games that I want to play on my 360 but now they have been rendered useless since I don’t have an old school xbox anymore.
How can I get around this problem? By just playing those games off of a normal TV. These games are going to look pretty lousy on a computer monitor anyway. That’s not what they were made for. They were made for TV and that’s where they belong, On the TV.
So since I don’t have a television I set out on a quest to find one. Most people start by looking at EBAY. But me being Threethumbs, king of finding things cheap I started out looking else where. I started at my university’s website. Most uni websites have a forum page where you can buy and sell. However you can’t get into these forums unless you are enrolled in the school. This has advantages and disadvantages. The main disadvantage is that…I can’t get into other schools forums. That’s kind of obvious right. But the advantage is that not a lot of people look at them!
I found a TV there for 75AUD/ 35 American dollars. How big was it?! 25”
Anyway right now it sits behind me at the edge of my bed waiting for me to come and play videogames on it again.
The coincidence starts here RIGHT HERE so pay attention. My uni is big with a lot of sister campuses all over the world and all over Australia. Anyway I called up the guy who I bought the TV off to come and pick it up. I guess I should of asked him if he was in Australia first though…anyway it turns out he does live in Australia….and get this….this is the crazy part so pay attention….he literally lives across the street from my house. I can see his house from my bedroom window!(I’m not some kind of “sicko” with a periscope or anything…I’m just stating facts) CRAYZEE!! In fact he actually helped me bring it over to my house! That’s how close he lives.

EDIT: in retrospect I guess I could have found a TV at the second hand shop aswell. heres a photo of the TV
